DMS is established a foothold in South Africa to serve the region with the opening of a regional DMS Centre to build capacity among disenfranchised people and to provide the necessary disaster mitigation programs as offered elsewhere at a local community-level and a strong emphasis on education, training in new skills and health related rehabilitation programs.
Eastern Cape
Poverty, disease take their toll in the Eastern Cape and the need for health services and the provision of testing facilities and vaccinations are urgently needed. DMS is to embark in a program entirely manned by Canadain and local volunteers made-up of doctors, nurses, interpreters and drivers with moving from one location to another with a series of mobile clinics.
Why Give??
By supporting DMS you will be helping us to enable communities acroos Canada and the world to be proactive in the prevention, preparation and mitigation of disaster risks. The increase in damages resulting from disasters is part of a worldwide trend which results from growing vulnerability and may reflect changing climate patterns.
Economic losses worldwide from disasters during the 1990s could have beed reduced by US$280-billion worldwide if US$40-billion had been invrsted in mitigation preparedness.
South Africa is much more than just a Country; it is the hub for many other independent nations that by geography are dependent on the countries wellbeing, stability and progress. South Africa including its landlocked neighbours such as Swaziland, Lesotho, and Botswana all have vulnerable communities exposed to vagaries of natural and other disasters including severe droughts and a series of communicable diseases that impact directly in the wellbeing of their growing populations and economies if left unchecked.
