DMS creates “Partnerships for Success” between local authorities and the vulnerable communities that they serve. This is achieved with the establishment of DMS Centres that provide the necessary infrastructure to sustain and maintain local community-based disaster mitigation, response and rescue programs, by equipping and manning these Centres with the required technologies, products, materiel and services including, ongoing support services and community-based training programs, and community capacity building, where every person plays an active role and is empowered in minimizing losses within their neighbourhood.

The services provided by DMS Centres include over and above disaster mitigation programs, social services; community-based educational programs in the prevention and spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria, water borne diseases, trachoma and immunization against a number of other infectious and communicable diseases including personal and family hygiene.

The focus of DMS Centres is to provide people living in vulnerable disaster prone regions of the world with:

• Well defined and planned programs specifically tailored to meet local needs;

• Development of social entrepreneurism structures that enable and empower people; so that

• DMS’ economic models may be implemented and provide for long-term sustainability and maintenance of each Centre; and

• Each person’s wellbeing, health, safety and protection against disasters including pandemics are addressed effectively and at a local community level     

DMS as a registered public charity (non-profit organization) based in Canada. It is an autonomous Organization that is bound by its By-Laws, rules and regulations. As a charity, DMS is dependent on the support of its membership network, volunteers and donations received from the public and the private sector, including sponsorships, which enable it to pursue its humanitarian aims and objectives, mitigating losses caused by natural and other disasters and preparing and empowering local communities exposed to disasters to take control of their own disaster mitigation programs in a sustainable manner.
